The groundhog did not see his shadow this year; that means an early Spring – although we found that very hard to believe until this week. It has been so cold – but the last few days have been beautiful. It makes us excited for Spring!
Fishing Opener – Walleye & Northern Pike
May 12, 2007 is the fishing opener for Walleye & Northern Pike. It’s always a big day at Eagle Nest Lodge and we’re looking forward to it again this year. We had a couple cancellations for opener, but please call us for reservations as we are not taking online reservations for that weekend. (There is one cabin open the following weekend.) Check out rate and availability online http://www.eaglenestlodge.net/cabins.htm.)
Fishing Opener – All Bass
The Bass fishing opener is May 26. We have a couple of cabins still available that weekend – but please contact us soon if you want to visit that weekend. We’re booking up fast. (Check out rate and availability online http://www.eaglenestlodge.net/cabins.htm.)
Fishing Opener – Muskie
I think we’ve got a pattern here – but we know we have some interested fishermen on this list. The Muskie fishing opener is June 2 this year. It looks as if we still have 5 cabins open. One insider tip – if you can wait until June 3 to come visit us the rates go down a little bit until the end of June. (Check out rate and availability online http://www.eaglenestlodge.net/cabins.htm.)
Get the Lead Out
While we are talking about fishing, we want to make an environmental statement -"Get the Lead Out". Eagle Nest Lodge is making a push for lead-free tackle on our lakes. We will be stocking lead free jigs and sinkers this year. Lead poisoning kills many wild birds each year...loons, ducks and geese, and eagles are all victims of lead poisoning when they eat jigs or sinkers from the bottom of the lake, or eat animals with lead in them (shot in birds or jigs in fish). The MN DNR has an interesting article concerning this matter. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ecological_services/

Free Fishing Guide
New for 2007, reserve cabins 11/12, 13 or 14 between June 2 and June 23 and receive a FREE 1/2 day guide trip for 1-3 people during your stay. (3 night minimum stay required.)
Lots of Things to Do at Eagle Nest Lodge
It feels as if we’re all about the fishing this month. (Maybe we’re hungry!) But we have a wide range of activities to enjoy – our Naturalist programs for kids will be starting June 10th. The "water toys" such as hydro bikes, kayaks, canoes and bouncy rafts are ready for action starting Memorial Weekend. The Simpson Creek Trails, which you can access right from Eagle Nest Lodge, are fabulous for hiking and mountain biking spring, summer and fall. We also have a calendar of area activities on the web site (http://www.eaglenestlodge.net/calendar.htm). Whether you are looking for an action packed vacation or just a quiet getaway, Eagle Nest Lodge can assist you. Give us a call to arrange your escape from reality.
