Fall Activities for Kids
Come join us for the beautiful fall leaf colors. It’s amazing up here. The lake is calm, the trees are bursting, and the quiet is so restful.
We’ve gathered a few fall activities for kids to help give you an excuse to visit us before the snow falls:
Collect Leaves
This is the easy and fun part. Come visit us and you can go wild throughout the resort. Collect leaves in a bag, basket, or folder. Be sure to keep an eye open for eagles – it’s the perfect time to see tem heading down South.
Identify Leaves
Check out the Eagle Nest Lodge Fall Expert quiz. See if you can identify the leaves in the pictures. The Activity Village web site will help you identify leaves on your walk around the resort.
Press Leaves
Once you’ve collected the leaves, choose your favorites. Put them singly into the pages of a large book, or between 2 pieces of paper and under something heavy. Leave them for 3 days or so – until they are dry and flat.
Create a Craft or Just Enjoy
Create a Leaf Mobile
- Shellac pressed leaf surface one side and let dry
- Shellac the other side and let it dry.
- Get 2 branches about 2 feet in length.
- Tie branches together in the middle, so that they cross one another.
- Cut different lengths of string or twine.
- Glue the shellacked leaves to one end of the string.
- Tie strings to the ends/middle of the branches.
- Hang and enjoy
Create a Placemat, Card or Bookmark
- Glue pressed leaves to a sturdy piece of construction paper. Choose an appropriate size for the project.
- Spray shellac on the mats
- Or take to a copy shop to laminate for longer lasting placemats
- Consider saving the projects to give to family members are Christmas gifts
Create Leaf Shadings
Gather leaves and palce under a piece of paper. Use a crayon or pencil and gently rub the paper on top of leaf. Long strokes work better than short ones. Enjoy the beauty of the leaf shading – all of the contours and details should show up with this project.
